Wood Inlay Cuff Bracelet Repair

I’ll be the first to tell you that wood isn’t my foray, but this client came in with a brass and wood inlaid cuff bracelet they got on a trip to South Africa. After wearing this piece for over 16 years, one of the wooden segments came out.

My client was fine with using any material that would match the wood in the inlay so once I received his ring, I scoured my large collection of rocks to find the perfect match before settling on this piece of Biggs jasper that matched the subtly warm hue of the wood.

Because wood is more flexible in the way it expands and contracts, I had to take a different approach to inlaying the jasper around this cuff. Whereas the wood is inlaid in one piece, I inlaid the jasper in 3 pieces with invisible seams so that the difference would be unnoticeable.

And instead of bringing the jasper to a high final polish, I stopped a bit short so that the stone’s sheen would better match the wood.

The jasper repair in this ring is on the left, with the wooden segments on the right of this wood inlay cuff repair.
