Behind the Scenes: Resizing an Inlay Ring

My client was so happy with how her 14k Native American inlay ring repair came out, that she came back to me with this project.

The proposed project was to resize the 14k gold inlay ring blank (as seen in the picture on the left)--using material from another 14k gold ring (seen in the middle) before inlaying it with the jade ring (on the right). The ring would be resized from a 7.5 to a 10.

The first thing to do was lengthen the inlay ring, which involves sawing the ring open before adding additional length to it, which was taken from the other ring my client sent me.

Once the ring was semi-polished, I went ahead with cutting portions of the jade ring to inlay into the gold ring. This jade had many little holes throughout the stone, but I was able to inlay the most solid sections into her ring.

After cutting and inlaying the jade, I was able to polish the gold band and her ring was finished!

Here’s what my client had to say about her ring:

CRAFTWOMAN! You have outdone yourself again. I don’t want anyone else touching my jewelry but you.
