Lightning Bolt Inlay Pendant Repair

“Wow, that’s not a repair—that’s a complete overhaul!,” my mom said when she saw this newest repair I did for a client. And it initially wasn’t going to be like that!

When my client first came to me for this inlay pendant repair, she was initially interested in seeing if I could replace the 4 yellowed pieces of mother of pearl in this amazing sand-cast lightning bolt pendant. After a while she asked if we could just go ahead and replace everything with turquoise.

While the majority of my repair clients repair their inlay jewelry with pieces of solid-colored turquoise, this client loved seeing the selection of patterned Hubei turquoise I have in my collection.

She selected 4 of her favorite patterned ones and told me to let my creativity run free for a mosaic-style inlay.

Before just going at it, I selected two of her favorite turquoises and put them in a digital design so my client could visualize approximately what the outcome would look like—and she was 100% on board with it!

From there, I was able to cut the stones to match the design, epoxy them back in place, and then cut the surface flush again.

When my client saw her pendant for the first time, she said, “I’m literally blown away. That is the most beautiful thing I have ever seen. You transformed it into something I’m actually excited to wear!”
