2021 Grant Winner: Florida School of Woodwork

Wait, woodworking? I thought she was a lapidary and silversmith?!

This may seem like a random excursion, but I applied for this grant from the Friends of the Florida School of Woodworking to take a week-long Introduction to Woodturning class in November to help build my jewelry brand further.

Looking at different display options, I wasn’t quite finding the sleek, modern, timeless yet innovative displays for my intricate pendants and cuff bracelets. If I couldn’t find what I wanted, why don’t I just make the artistic yet functional pieces that I desired?

I’m just so pleased that the grant panelists chose me as one of the grant winners (two were selected) for this grant period, it is truly an honor to be able to be given the opportunity to try a new craft and help build curb appeal with more interesting displays.

I've had a little experience with woodturning since I took a beer cup class with my husband a few years back, but woodturning has so much potential not just for display purposes, but wouldn’t some wood/stone inlay cuffs be pretty fantastic?

My first wood turned cup, not too shabby!

While I can’t wait for it to be November already, this will give me plenty of time to do some sketches of design ideas.

I eventually plan to start displaying my works at craft shows in the next few years (once I have my baby, who is due to be born a few days before Christmas). I can’t wait to show you what I come up with! :)
