Geometric Inlay Ring Repair
This client came in with a very special inlay ring repair. He and his wife had custom-made inlay wedding rings made by a Native American craftsman during their travels out west. After years of wear, some of the stones on either side of the inlay channel had fallen out.
I often quote my clients a few different options if possible: a less expensive option just to replace the missing stones, and a more thorough option of removing all of the stones so that your inlay jewelry can start with a fresh slate. This is especially important with older inlay since the epoxy holding the stones together does age—and when stones fall out that’s when you know it’s time!
My client opted to have all of the stones removed since this is such a meaningful ring and he wanted it to last for years to come.
I first removed all of the stones from the inlay ring. With all of the stones out, I was also able to round out the bottom shank of the ring that had been distorted a bit from daily wear.
I created digital renditions of the repair for my client to pick design and stone color options since it can be hard to visualize in words alone what the final inlay jewelry repair will look like.
Once he made his selections, I got to work re-assembling the stone mosaics for his inlay ring.
Because there were so many pieces in this ring, I had to connect each piece one by one to ensure a good fit.

I slowly worked on re-setting the mosaic from one side to the other and once all of the stones were re-epoxied and cured, I was able to cut the stones flush again. After many stages of polishing, this ring repair was finished!
This is the front of this inlay ring repair. While it didn’t initially appear there was any damage to these stones, some of them had micro cracks that appeared when I removed the stones so I recut those stones as well.
Here is a before and after shot of the other side of this intricate mosaic inlay ring repair. My client wanted the design to be slightly changed so that it would match the other side.
“The ring has been off my finger for at least six months. Sliding it back on felt like restoring a finger to my hand. We are so moved by this whole process with you.”
