Afterpay Interview: How to Win Small Business Grants

Afterpay was after me!

Not for money, but I was recently asked to be interviewed for a recent article on how small businesses can better position themselves to win grants.

Though I’ve been fortunate enough to win 8 grants throughout my artistic career (back from when I was a painter to now as a lapidary jewelry artist), I’ve also received more than a fair share of declination letters.

Those emails absolutely never get easier, but luckily I’ve grown enough to not take it personally, and to take it as an opportunity to learn from.

Now I wouldn’t say I’m the best writer out there, but I’ve had at least 6+ years experience writing (moonlighting) arts-related articles for publications like Creative Loafing Tampa, 83 Degrees Media, and Tampa Magazine all while running a small business.

Because I had the opportunity to interview with so many different people in the art world—from philanthropists to directors to curators and other artists—I think that helps you reflect and broaden your interpretation of your own work.
